Kylie Minogue’s Tension Tour in Sydney
March 2nd 2025
You always hear that Kylie Minogue ‘puts on a show’ but you really do not know what that means until you experience it.
Kylie Minogue’s show was my 497th concert that I have been to. I’ve seen a huge variety of different artists from all genres and Kylie stands out as one of the best.
Kylie is an ultimate performer and entertainer. Her professionalism allows her to know her boundaries and which allows her to change how things work so it makes her look awesome and the fans feel more connected.
Kylie’s Voice
Kylie’s voice is definitely not the strongest and best voice around. However, her voice is stronger than it ever was before, and seems more powerful, but it’s still abit nasally. But truthfully, if you were going to Kylie’s concert for her voice there are a lot better in the vocal range but not too many in the entertainment range who can also sing well.
The Preciseness
This is a highly staged concert and this is a great thing to experience as it is sharp, well timed, visually attractive and ‘in your face’.
The Audience
What Kylie Gives To Her Audience
This is a concert where you get 100%. You definitely get your money’s worth. It is on from the minute it starts to the minute it ends and even the quiet areas are entertaining. She gives all for her audience and I now know why everyone says “Make sure you see a Kylie Minogue concert”.
The Audience Itself
The actual audience is amazing. Probably the nicest audience I have ever been with at any concert before.
The demographic is also kinda weird ranging from 20 year olds to 80 year olds plus and they all love Kylie and Kylie gives that respect back in spades.
One thing I was a little disappointed about is that not that many people dressed up to have the full Kylie experience. There were some but I wanted a lot more.
For the ones that did dress up, good on you, as you made the experience better.
The Support Act – Mallrat
Mallrat, an up-and-coming Aussie singer and rapper, supported Kylie on this section of the tour. Both performers were from Brisbane from what I can find out. They tried and they were ok. I have seen better support acts but at smaller venues and supporting more similar bands. They would have been good but the big venue and lots of empty seats due to it being a support act left them out in the cold. I also do not believe they have built the full identity of stage presence and their entertainment set up as it was all a bit naive and the dialogue between the songs made it even harder for them.
All The Classic Kylie Songs
You get the major ones that do not disappoint but you do not get the song “Kids”. Which is ok as it was good then but it has aged.
The 47th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade 2025
The tour coincided with the 47th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and there must be some background politics running around. Kylie Minogue during her show talks about the 47th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on March 2nd and shows her real and lovely support for this event and everyone involved.
The New Songs From 16th studio album “Tension”.
They are not as good as her old music which sounds better now that her voice has more to it. I understand that it is more pointed and more story lined but they miss that Kylie Australian Music Generation Symbolism from the late 90′ early 2000s. This newer music lacks something as it is worked to ‘say something’ and not ‘Kylie’. I am saying this as I believe that ‘Kylie’ and not ‘Kylie Minogue as Kylie’ was a branding that put our music industry back as a game changer with ‘Spinning Around’.
The Concert
The concert is bigger than you expect with loud quality sound that you do not expect. The concert set up has futuristic backup dancers and elaborate stage production. Some of the lighting and stage set ups are truly amazing. It is not new tech but it is used in new ways and extremely well.
A Kylie Concert is worth a view as it is cute, cool and then powerfully designed for your entertainment and she does not disappoint.
I thought that this concert may not be the best but she proved me wrong as she is an amazing Pop Princess.
I really wonder how good Kylie Minogue was back 20 years ago in concert when in her prime as she is the perfect entertainer now with ultimate stage presence and did she have this back then.
Go See It
The tour is going worldwide from what I have heard, across five continents. Even venues like Madison Square Garden in New York City is pegged to be a venue. If you get the chance go see it, it is worth the time and money no matter if you are male, female, gay, straight or any other.
Kylie’s “Tension” would be hard not to enjoy!
