Fear Not—Tyler Perry’s Upcoming Film Will Help His New Netflix Drama’s Rotten Tomatoes Debacle

Mea Culpa, Tyler Perry’s most recent film, was poorly reviewed by reviewers and ended up being a Rotten Tomatoes catastrophe; however, this problem might be fixed by his next film. Tyler Perry is well-known for his work as an actor and director, despite some difficulties in his latter role. After beginning his acting career on stage, Perry starred as Madea in Diary of a Mad Black Woman, his most well-known role, to mark his big film debut in 2005. The following year saw the release of Perry’s first feature film, Madea’s Family Reunion, and he has since helmed many films.

While Perry has continued to play the title role in the Madea film series, which has defined his career as a director, he has also experimented with other genres in his works. Perry most recently delved into the legal thriller genre with Mea Culpa, which was made available on Netflix. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Mea Culpa shot to the top of Netflix’s list of movies and series, and it remained there for days. Perry’s most hopeful Rotten Tomatoes run was ruined by Mea Culpa, but it may be restored by his next film, which is already expected to garner much higher reviews.

Mea Culpa Should Be Far Lower On The Rotten Tomatoes Score Than Six Triple Eight

Mea Culpa features Mea Harper (Kelly Rowland), a lawyer experiencing a marital crisis with her husband, Kal Hawthorne (Sean Sagar). Their situation is exacerbated by Kal Hawthorne’s mother, Azalia (Kerry O’Malley), and frequent intervention from his elder brother Ray (Nick Sagar). Ray tries to keep Mea away from the case since he is the District Attorney, but Mea accepts it when artist Zyair Malloy (Trevante Rhodes) is charged with killing his lover. The closer Mea gets to Zyair, the more difficult a scenario becomes for her.

Mea Culpa now has a 25% critics’ score and a 36% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have called the film “silly,” labeled Mea as a “stupid” character, and noted a lack of chemistry between Rowland and Rhodes. Mea Culpa has a disorganized Rotten Tomatoes score, but Perry’s next film, Six Triple Eight, already seems to be much better, so there’s a greater potential that this misfortune may be rectified. Based on a 2019 magazine article by Kevin M. Hymel on WWII history, Six Triple Eight is a combat drama. Six Triple Eight is modeled after the all-black and all-female 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II.

Kerry Washington, along with Susan Sarandon, Oprah Winfrey, Sam Waterston, Sarah Jeffrey, Ebony Obsidian, and many more, starred in Six Triple Eight as Major Charity Adams. Six Triple Eight seems to be a very different film from what audiences would typically anticipate from Perry. Its themes and plot are also quite different from those of Mea Culpa, which gives it a significant edge over the film and increased potential for a better Rotten Tomatoes score.

Tyler Perry’s Big 2024 Will Continue With Six Triple Eight (Regardless Of Reviews)

Tyler Perry is ranked #1 even though Mea Culpa had a horrible review and has a low Rotten Tomatoes score. This is because the movie was a tremendous hit on Netflix. Regardless of how reviewers evaluate it, Six Triple Eight is sure to be a Netflix smash given Perry’s widespread appeal and his films’ inescapable pull for audiences. Perry’s record-breaking year on streaming would continue if Six Triple Eight were to be released in 2024.

Perry is also working on Madea’s Destination Wedding, a new film that will be available on Netflix, in addition to these. There is currently no estimated release date for Madea’s Destination Wedding, however it may happen in late 2024. Even if reviewers are still not quite sold on Tyler Perry, 2024 will be a successful year for him on streaming services if the new Madea film is released this year.
