The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princes
This album is pop and in certain areas not good pop. I cannot work out if the beats and songs are childish or it is a strange try too hard idea instead of just letting her talents show. It has a couple of good quality songs on the album but most songs are not impressive and some fall into being annoying. Annoying is ok if that is what you are going for but this CD The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is meant to have a serious side to it which gets overawed with over production and simplification which made it complex and missing the mark.
Chappell Roan
This is a talented solo artist who has a lot to say but I would like to hear more of her and from her and not be overtaken by a less talented structured business team.
Chappell Roan won the Best New Artist award in the 67th Annual Grammy Awards 2025 and she deserves it as a solo artist. I believe though that this album does not show her full capacity of what she can do in music and for the music industry.

Could This CD Be Better?
The answer is Yes! as it seems they made it a marketing and branding objective instead of getting the point across through her music. If they engineer the album down a bit and still leave the showmanship but give it more to her to work out and understand I think the album would hold a better music source but also a more creative overtone of the whole package. As each song is a story it would have fulfilled the stories more.
The Recording
It is a loud and proud recording but sometimes too loud and proud with high ends being a tiny bit unnatural and the sound stage sounding tight, overlapping and squished. Even as a pop recording it is OK but not great.
The Raw
The raw emotion at times does come through and that is nice. It adds a grounding to certain areas from the first song through the album but it does not hold to make the album great but only ok.
The Fans
You have to listen to this album to decide whether you are a fan as on a personal level this CD will affect people and it may hit the right notes with you and if it does, Chappell Roan really deserves it. It does not hit with me but I think her next album will be more for me as she would have grown a new edge as she breaks barriers and misbehaves.
The CD
Chappell Roan is a super talent from song writing to how she sings. This CD has issues but the artist will grow into a special identity though it may take two or more years. I cannot wait to hear her next album as I think it could be good.
